The VSA recognise the achievements of the Horsham Flying Club in hosting gliding events over many years and for their recent success in gaining recognition as a site for national competitions.
Accordingly, the Horsham Flying Club is awarded the 2019 Maurice Little Trophy for club development.
Horsham Flying Club (previously the Wimmera Soaring Club) have hosted the popular gliding competition ‘Horsham Week’ for 53 consecutive years without a break which is likely a world record for gliding competitions. Since 2007 Horsham has also been the venue for the VSA Coaching Week as a prelude to ‘Horsham Week’.
In 2018 Horsham Club gained the rights as the Australian site for the International Sailplane Grand Prix and they ran it again in 2019. Recently the Horsham Club have been successful in their bid to run the GFA 2-seater National Championships in February 2020 and will likely run it for 2021 as well.
To have hosted so many gliding events with safe and successful results is a credit to the hard work, experience and dedication of this small club as well as their volunteer support base.
The VSA wish the Horsham Club continuing success and trust that the club will be able to host gliding events for many years to come.
